Send scheduled messages using SuperGroup
Whatsapp has by far the highest read ratio amongst email, Slack and other communication channels. Which makes it a great way to communicate with your customers 1 on 1.
Today we are introducing a super easy way of scheduling messages to be sent out to from your Whatsapp account.
Please follow the Link your Whatsapp with SuperGroup article to setup your account. We're going to use your linked Whatsapp account for sending scheduled messages.
Step 1. Make a copy of the Google sheet template
You can find google sheet template here:
Make a copy of the Google sheet in your account so you can edit it.
Step 2. Update the SG_Scheduler sheet with your messages

The messages you wish to send can be configured in the SG_Scheduler sheet. Let's go through the columns:
-
Should_send: This is a dropdown to help you quickly enable / disable messages to be sent. As you must have figured out already, yes means the message should be sent. no means it should not.
-
Sender_number: This is the sender account in case you have linked multiple Whatsapp accounts with SuperGroup. In case you only have 1 Whatsapp account linked, you can leave this blank.
-
Send_to: You can specify the id of the user / group you want to send the message to. This is the numeric id you see on the SuperGroup dashboard page, or else you can specify the user name / group name. When specifying names, ensure that the name matches exactly. In case of a typo, no messages will be sent (we err on the side of caution). You can specify multiple recipients here, each on a new line.
-
Message_type: We support
text
,image
,video
,document
andpoll
. Select the appropriate message type from the dropdown. To send an image or a video, upload the file to a Google drive folder and share it with SuperGroup service account. Then you can add the link to the Google drive file in the text message and watch it go. See the section on Sending media below for more details. -
Message: Type the message you wish to send here.
Time columns
The days columns below indicate the day of the week to send the message on. Put the time you want to send the message out in hour:mins AM|PM
format, like 9:00 am
or 2:30 pm
.
- Sun
- Mon
- Tue
- Wed
- Thu
- Fri
- Sat
Step 3. Share the sheet with SuperGroup
Share your new google sheet with google-sheets-updater@oauth-app-368203.iam.gserviceaccount.com with editor access. This gives SuperGroup the access to read and write to this sheet.
Step 4.
Copy the google sheet url and paste it in the Integrations section on your SuperGroup dashboard.
Once added, you should see the sheet id as active. You can pause or delete the scheduler if required.
Your scheduled messages should now go as planned. Do keep a buffer of +-5 minutes for your messages.
Sending media
SuperGroup supports sending polls, text, image, video messages and documents. Select the appropriate message type you wish to send. To send an image or a video:
- Upload the file to a Google drive folder
- Share the folder with the SuperGroup service account
- Now add the link to the Google drive file in the text message, like this:

SuperGroup automatically downloads the file and sends the appropriate message.
NOTE: Don't forget to give permissions to the service account mentioned above, otherwise the message cannot be sent.
And you're all set π
